Professional training for creative individuals

Karl von Busse

Karl von Busse trained as a graphic designer in Germany. At 20 he traveled to Australia and fell in love with the Australian way of life.

After many years working for one company he gave up his secure job for the uncertainty of self employment and became a freelance designer for an advertising company.

In 1972 Karl formed his own company, KvB Visual Concepts, and employed 3 staff. By 1975 he bought a finished art studio and increased his staff to 6 with numerous companies and agencies as clients.

Karl started to receive applications from TAFE and University students applying for jobs. He felt that most of the applicants did not have the skills and knowledge to work in a busy studio without further training.

At that time there was only one private design school operating in Sydney. So, in 1978 he decided to open his own college under the name of “KvB Institute of Technology” with the introduction of a Graphic Design course. The program was totally industry driven with lecturers out of the industry and his studio was also used to give his students work experience while studying.

The college was so successful that within a short time KvB had over 200 students and Karl expanded by offering courses in Fashion Design, Interior Design, Photography, TV & Film Production and Multimedia.
