The Institute of Design will be opening a new campus in the Sydney CBD in 2012. The new Sydney campus will offer Graphic Design, Fashion Design and an Interior Design program. Student intake is limited, with only 18 places per program, per year.

IDU student wins Special Award in the Fashion Less Waste 2011 Awards in Sydney

Institute of Design Ulladulla fashion student, Cody Winward, has won a Special Award for Best Accessory Hat, at the Fashion Less Waste 2011 Awards held on Thursday 19 May at the Australian Museum. Not only did she win this Special Award, but was also joint runner-up in the Open Category Award for her entire outfit inspired by the competition theme “Birds of Paradise”.
A main aim of Fashion Less Waste is to encourage sustainability in the fashion industry, and Cody’s outfit consisted of items such as painter’s tarp, dental floss and tea bags – in line with the competition brief of designing and creating an outfit from materials bought and used for a non-clothing purpose.

The Republic of Everyone at the Institute of Design Ulladulla
The Republic of Everyone, is a consultancy who help their clients promote their green and sustainability credentials. They work with businesses to make a positive impact on the world and want to receive positive feedback for doing so.
Matt Perry ( Co-founder of The Republic of Everyone) will talk to IDU students about his 15 years in the advertising industry. During this time Matt has worked on promoting products as varied as yoghurt, beer, chocolate, toothpaste, cars, flights, holidays, search engines, cameras, TVs, fashion, cola, banks, insurance and newspapers. Now over the last four years he has turned his focus on looking at how sustainability can play a role in building brands, social change and fundraising. Matt started out at at M&C Saatchi in London working in traditional advertising before moving to set up the agency’s first digital branding division in the ‘90’s. Matt is a regular columnist in publications Ad News, Greenpages, Marketing Magazine and B&T. He regularly speaks at industry events including State of Design, Design Institute of Australia and the Australian Institute of Marketing on subjects across business, brand and sustainability.
Matt Perry, will speak to students and staff at the Institute of Design Ulladulla about the philosophy of The Republic of Everyone, how they approach projects, do they miss out on work because of their principles, and ‘Design for change’ – how we can use design to influence and change the way people think and behave.
This is an opportunity for IDU students to gain real world insight into advertising promotion, marketing strategies, creative planning, branding and sustainability.
